Off Road Under 17 Driving Lessons

Drive Safe are able to offer driving lessons for under 17's

We have an off road area at Waltham Airfield near Grimsby. The area is the old World War 2 runway giving us plenty of space to teach the required skills of learning to drive. We are in easy reach of Grimsby, Louth, Scunthorpe, Lincoln and Hull and have had many eager young drivers over the years come to us from these areas as we are at most just over an hour away. All cars are fully insured for off road tuition and allow us to start teaching from the age of 14.

This part of our school is now owned and run by one of our instructors Andy Bird who will usually be the instructor to conduct the lessons. Andy has always been the instructor who has handled these lessons for us until he took over the contract for the airfield in April 2018 and will continue to give the high quality tuition he has always given, the only difference is he is now the owner for this activity and has the sole responsibility for it's upkeep. Our telephonist will continue to take the calls and bookings for Andy and arrange your lesson bookings.

Drive Safe under 17 driving lessons are aimed at teaching the skills early to the pupil so that the day they turn seventeen they will know most of the skills and take to the road with confidence. Obviously this is going to be a great advantage as the skills required for driving safely come to many of us a second nature once we have been driving for a while, you only have to watch an experienced driver to see how easy it seems to be able to check the mirrors, indicate, slow down, change gear, observe the every day hazards and generally perform a smooth drive.

All of these things come with time, practice and experience. Imagine getting a head start on all of this in the safety of off road tuition. This can be achieved with multiple lessons.

All of the lessons given will be with a DVSA qualified instructor so when the pupil turns 17 we will do our best for him/her be kept with the same instructor and car so that they are in familiar surroundings when they are able to drive on the road should they wish to stay with Drive Safe Driving School when the time comes.

The aim of our off road facility is to prepare the pupil so that they may take their driving test as near to turning 17 as possible. (You may apply for a provisional licence up to 3 months prior to your 17th birthday). Each pupil is individual and learns at different speeds, we adapt and teach to the speed of the pupils learning skills.

It is always worth remembering that whilst we try to make this facility as realistic as possible there will not be any other road users around (except other pupils using this facility) so this will be the biggest obstacle to master once on the road.

Lessons have a duration time of 75 minutes and will normally be held on a Saturday or Sunday (Mon - Fri may be available subject to availability and daylight hours). If you are looking to have just a one off lesson quite simply to learn how to make a car move and learn basic car control this is an ideal way to be introduced to driving.

Parents, friends or relatives are more than welcome to stay and watch the lesson in progress and take photo's or video's. (We've even been on Facetime to Australia on one occasion).

Should you wish to book or find out more about our off road tuition please feel free to give us a call.

The cost of a 75 minute off road lesson is £49

This includes a short safety and cockpit familiarisation start to the lesson and a debrief at the end of the lesson.

Unfortunately we are no longer able to offer gift vouchers for under 17 off road driving lessons.
However if you wish to book for a special occasion you may still do this if you wish to make some form of voucher yourself as the present and simply pay the instructor on the day of the lesson.
